Experience a complete four-hour video production workflow, from gathering footage to editing. Start with a simulator to learn the basics of drone operation, followed by a real-flight experience when conditions and permissions allow.
Then, join the instructor to film architecture, local businesses and neighbourhood details with a phone or camera. Finally, combine different angles with ambient sound to create a short-film draft.
This hands-on personal creative workshop brings together flying and ground-based filming, and is designed for beginners who want to try the full production process.

1｜Simulator Flight: Build Your Confidence
In Beets’ indoor space at PMQ, use VR or a remote-control simulator to get familiar with the controls, direction and spatial awareness. The instructor will introduce Hong Kong drone operating rules, safety distances and how to assess on-site conditions, helping you build basic control skills and safety awareness before trying an actual drone.
2｜Real Flight: Experience the Conditions
At the rooftop garden on the 4th floor of PMQ, try controlling a real drone under the instructor’s guidance. Notice how airflow and surroundings affect flight and camera framing. Real flight is subject to venue permission, weather and safety assessment. If conditions are unsuitable, the experience will be adapted with a demonstration and simulator practice.
3｜Neighbourhood Filming: Find Your Shot with the Instructor
This part focuses on ground-based filming and does not use a drone. Join the instructor to photograph or film PMQ’s historic buildings and nearby creative shops using a phone or camera.
Practise the rule of thirds, frame shots with the green window frames, and use camera movement to connect people, spaces and details.
Filming inside shops or on their premises is subject to the circumstances and permission on the day.
4｜Behind the Edit: Bring Aerial and Ground Footage Together
Use mobile or tablet editing software to combine aerial and ground footage. Practise arranging shots and setting a rhythm, add ambient sounds from Central and Sheung Wan, and use colour grading to create a sense of history.
You’ll work towards a short-film draft and learn the basic workflow from footage to edit. Progress depends on each participant’s editing pace and the footage available on the day.

Make-up sessions will be arranged at a future workshop date (subject to available capacity) in the following cases:

Beets cancels a scheduled workshop due to special circumstances. Participants will be notified by email or another contact method at least 24 hours in advance.

A Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above, or a Black Rainstorm Warning Signal, is in effect on the workshop day.

Depending on enrolment, Beets may cancel the entire workshop at least seven days before it starts. Participants can choose a full refund or transfer to another session. No further compensation will be provided.

A: No. This is a hands-on flying and video production workshop, not an official licensing or certification course.
