Beyblade 3D Printing STEM Course for Schools

Using battle spinning tops as a learning platform, students measure, design, test and improve their own 3D-printed top through team and individual competitions, developing skills in engineering design, data analysis and reflection.

Learning Objectives
  • Understand 3D printing principles, basic materials and safety precautions.

  • Understand battle spinning top structures, centre of gravity, weight distribution, contact points and stability.

  • Use tools to measure spinning top dimensions and record spin time, stability and competition results.

  • Master basic 3D software operations and turn hand-drawn sketches into 3D models.

  • Design and improve a 3D-printed battle spinning top.

  • Analyse design strengths and weaknesses based on test data and make evidence-based improvements.

  • Learn strategy, collaboration, presentation and reflection through 3 vs 3 team matches and individual matches.

Course Outline

The course uses battle spinning tops as an entry point to STEM learning, giving students a complete experience of the engineering design process—from observation, measurement, design and 3D printing to testing and improvement.


  1. Introduction to 3D Printing and Battle Spinning Tops: understand top structures, 3D printing principles and materials.

  2. 3D Spatial Understanding and Data Collection: measure spinning tops in groups and record and compare dimensional data.

  3. Hand-drawn Design and Initial 3D Modelling: convert sketches into simple 3D models.

  4. Single-Piece Top Design (1): design a single-piece battle spinning top based on the data.

  5. Single-Piece Top Design (2): optimise attack, defence and centre-of-gravity designs.

  6. Single-Piece Top Design (3) and Testing: test 3D-printed tops, record performance and improve the design.

  7. 3 vs 3 Team Matches and Tactics Discussion: compete in groups and discuss team strategy and lineup order.

  8. Individual Finals and Showcase: present the work, summarise the design and reflect on learning.
